India has overtaken Japan and becomes the third largest global smart phone market after China and the United States in the first quarter of 2013.According to a new report by a research firm Strategy Analytic, India became the world’s No. 3 smart phone market for the first time. During the first quarter of 2013 smart phone sales in India jumped by 163%, compared to the 39 percent growth of global Smart phones volume. It noted that India’s smart phone market is rising quicker than China (86%), Japan (24%), the US (19%).
The Smart phone makers like Samsung, Apple and the local mobile makers such as Karbonn, Micromax and Spice are the higher volumes in the country. The report also claimed that the three home mobile makers have recorded a growth rate of between 200% and 500% on an annual basis.
Android smart phones are doing the best in the Indian market, the analysts said that “They are almost all using Android software, which captured 89% share of the entire market in the quarter”.
