Submarine volcano’s are earth fissures in the earth surface. Some are located in the ocean ridges and many are located in depths of the ocean’s and sea’s. The presence of water alter the characteristics of volcanic eruption. The increased thermal conductivity of water causes the magma to cool and solidify quickly than terrestrial eruption.

Below the depth of 2200 meters in ocean where the pressure exceeds 218 atmospheres, the critical pressure of water makes no longer boil, so it becomes super critical fluid. The lava formed in submarine volcano are different from terrestrial volcanoes.

Many submarine volcanoes are usually found as sea mounts. They are found rising from a seafloor of 1000-4000 meters depth. They can rise at least from 1000 meters from sea floor. Approximately 30000 sea mounts occur around the globe.
